The passing of former PBA import Jackson Vroman caught the Philippine basketball scene by surprise early Tuesday morning.

And for his ex teammates in Ginebra, he was one of those professional guys who always gave his all on the floor.

“It was surprising to hear of his demise because he’s very young,” said Ginebra team manager Alfrancis Chua, who was the team’s coach when Vroman saw action with the crowd favorites.

Jayjay Helterbrand, who has known Vroman even before his Ginebra days, remembers the naturalized Lebanese as a hardworker.

“It was a shock for me when I heard the news. I’m just praying for his family and friends in this time of sadness,” Helterbrand said.

“As a teammate, I remember him being a very hard worker. Playing against him during my RP days, I remember him dominating the international game, especially when they played against China. He’s a great player and I’m praying peace for his soul. God bless him.”

Eric Menk sent his condolences to his former teammate, saying that he was  “a very likable guy and I’m glad I had a chance to meet him and spend some time with him.”

“My condolences go out to his family and his loved ones. Congratulations on a great basketball career and a life well lived.”

Dylan Ababou, who was a rookie with Ginebra back in 2012, echoed the thoughts of his former teammates about Vroman.

“He was very professional in coming early to practice. He was always quiet and very serious.”

Vroman steered Ginebra to a semifinal finish in the 2012 Commissioner’s Cup, falling to eventual champs B-Meg in four games.
