Filipino-Swiss racing star Marlon Stockinger returns to familiar territory when he vies in the fifth round of the GP2 Season at Silverstone Circuit in England this Saturday.

The 24-year-old Stockinger actually lived near the fabled race track for a couple of years while starting his racing career in Europe.

Now he’s hoping that his homecoming will be a memorable one as he continues to boost his stock in a bid to reach Formula One.

“It was my home base for a couple of years and it’s a unique track because it has a lot of history,”  Stockinger said of Silverstone. “The first-ever Formula One Grand Prix was held there. So I have a lot of good memories there.”

Stockinger took part in Slipstream 2.0 organized by Globe Telecom at Bonifacio Global City last Saturday. He shared the F1 experience during the event driving his Lotus-Gravity Charouz Formula Renault 3.5. He also drove an actual passenger jeepney.

“Driving the jeepney was a lot of fun,” he said. “I used to ride them when I was young but this is the first time I get to drive one. It’s cool.”

It was in the GP3 Series in Monaco in 2012 when Stockinger burst onto the European racing scene, wresting the pole and setting the fastest lap.

As part of Team Status Grand Prix, Stockinger will also race in Hungary later this month, Belgium in August, Italy in September, Russia in October and in Abu Dhabi in November in the support series for the 2015 Formula One World Championship.
