Spikers’ Turf volleyball lifts covers off collegiate tourney

CHAMPION teammates turn into rivals when the Spikers’ Turf Collegiate Conference unfolds on July 13 at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The standouts of PLDT Home Ultera, which ruled the inaugural Open conference last month, return to their respective schools to power their squads in a tough 12-team field.

Howard Mojica leads NCAA champion Emilio Aguinaldo College in Group A where he will be up against former teammate Vincent Mangulabnan of UAAP runner-up National University, Far Eastern University, Mapua, National College of Business and Arts and University of the East.

PLDT’s  John Vic De Guzman suits up for St.  Benilde in Group B, which includes UAAP champion Ateneo and rival La Salle, Arellano, La Salle-Dasmariñas and University of the Philippines.

Games will be played every Monday and Wednesday.

League organizer Sports Vision said foreign players may see action as one of the two guest players allowed in each team.

Teams will compete in a single round-robin and only the top four in each group will advance to the quarterfinals.

The top eight will clash in a single-round quarterfinals for slots in the best-of-three Final Four series before the finalists battle in another best-of-three affair. Jasmine W. Payo
