Amid rumors of his possible retirement, Chris Tiu said that he’s leaving his future up to the Rain or Shine management.

“If you’re asking about my PBA status, first of all, you have to ask (Rain or Shine management) if they are still interested to renew my contract. I cannot just assume that they will keep me. We have not spoken yet,” said Tiu, as the former Smart Gilas co-captain’s contract was supposed to end in August.

Tiu also elaborated the reasons of him changing his initial plans of retiring at the end of his rookie contract with the Elasto Painters, which was good for three years.

“I initially intended to play in the PBA for just one contract period, but now I’m reconsidering because I never thought I would enjoy playing basketball this much in this level,” he said.

“1) My teammates are just fun to be with and they are amazing players; 2) the owners & management are very easy to deal with and they are like family. No nonsense politics.; 3) I like Coach Yeng (Guiao)’s style of running a team and his basketball philosophy. I’ve been learning a lot and it’s only recently that I’ve really been able to adjust and get my confidence and rhythm going somewhat; and 4) The ROS fans are amazing,” Tiu continued.

“As much as playing professional ball is enjoyable, it is also taxing physically, mentally & emotionally, which may compromise my quality of work for my other commitments.”

“At the end of the day, I am truly grateful to the Lord, the team, the fans and the support of my family. I trust in God’s plan and I pray that I will do what He wants of me. Salamat sa lahat ng suporta!”

An earlier tweet from Tiu after Rain or Shine’s exit in the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals sparked speculations that he was leaving the PBA.

“I want to thank all the ROS fans for your support, rain or shine! Thank you for believing. Sana ‘wag kayong magsawa!”
