The calm before the storm?

Even a typhoon couldn’t stop Alaska and San Miguel from practicing a day before Game 1 of the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup Finals.

As Metro Manila continued to be affected by the heavy rains brought about by Typhoon “Falcon,” players from the two squads were inside the confines of their practice gyms, preparing for what promises to be an all-out war in a rematch of the Philippine Cup championship series.

The Aces had its usual closed-door morning practice inside the Gatorade Hoops Center in Shaw and coach Alex Compton said that they players went all out in training, as they have all season-long.

“We still went pretty hard. The team’s vibe was good and the guys seemed intense and focused,” Compton told INQUIRER.net.

Waiting in the Finals since dispatching Star on Sunday, Compton is hoping to sustain the team’s rhythm as Alaska waged war against rust.

Meanwhile in Acropolis, San Miguel’s preparation was the total opposite.

Still banged up from its four-game series with Rain or Shine, coach Leo Austria opted for a light afternoon practice in hopes of preserving his guys’ energy for the series opener.

“We only had a film viewing and then free shooting. Our practice was just very light,” June Mar Fajardo said.

The reigning league MVP, though, said that the team’s focus is still there and it feels eerily similar to the Beermen’s preparation in the Philippine Cup Finals.

“It’s almost the same. We’re just all positive,” he said.

Game 1 is on Friday, 7 p.m. at Smart Araneta Coliseum. CFC
