NCAA: Perpetual still immaculate, seizes solo lead
Drawing big games from its usual leaders, Perpetual clobbered San Sebastian, 84-70 to take solo first place in the NCAA Season 91 men’s basketball tourney Friday at San Juan Arena.
Reigning MVP Earl Scottie Thompson once again tallied a triple-double with 21 points, 15 rebounds, and 14 assists, as Nigerian big man Bright Akhuetie also had a huge double-double with 20 markers and 23 boards.
Gab Dagangon also helped in the Altas’ cause with 16 points and five rebounds as Perpetual stays perfect at 4-0.
Though nailing their fourth victory in as many games, coach Aric del Rosario shied away from tagging his squad as early frontrunners and reiterated that the season is still young.
“I’m happy with this start, but we still have 14 games. Our journey is still far from over but hopefully, the wins continue,” said the multi-titled coach.
Ryan Costelo paced the Stags (1-2) with 18 points as Bradwyn Guinto and Alvin Capobres had 13 points apiece.
