College of St. Benilde ensured there would be no comeback for Technological Institute of the Philippines, pulling away with a 25-16, 25-21, 19-25, 25-22, win in the group stages of Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference on Saturday at San Juan Arena.

Melanie Torres found the opening down the right sideline of the Lady Engineers’ defense to give the Lady Blazers the win and preserve its undefeated record at 2-0.

Lady Blazers head coach Michael Cariño was not happy with the team’s tendency to relax as they went up 2-0 in the sets.

“First two sets, we had it, but come third set we relaxed,” Cariño said. “It’s really bad, that’s our disease.”

“If we stick to the game plan, if we don’t relax, pressure won’t creep in on us.”

CSB had the game firmly in control approaching the third set but TIP would mount a comeback reminiscent of its debut match.

TIP stunned De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, winning the match despite falling down two sets to none in its Group B debut.

Jeanette Panaga put the starting work for the Lady Blazers with a block on the Lady Engineers to give CSB a 23-22 lead in the fourth set.

Lady Engineer Alyssa Layug would commit a costly mistake, hitting the ball straight to the net to give the Lady Blazers a 24-22 match point.

Jannine Navarro carried much of the load for the Lady Blazers, finishing with 24 points, while Panaga and Torres added 19 and 12 points, respectively.

Eden Maturan and Hezzymei Acuña combined for 25 points to lead the 1-1 Lady Engineers.
