Alyssa Valdez made a surprise debut and Ateneo made quick work of San Sebastian, 25-17, 25-13, 25-21, Sunday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Collegiate Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Valdez, who missed the Lady Eagles’ V-League opener last July 11, was insterted into the game at the start of the third set to the surprise of the Lady Stags, fans and even herself. She finished with five points.

“Buti nga may dala akong damit (Luckily, I brought my uniform),” Valdez said with a laugh on her unexpected appearance. “But coach always tells us to be ready every time.”

Jho Maraguinot led Ateneo with 13 points on 10 kills and two blocks to punish San Sebastian.

Kim Gequillana also provided support with 11 points, nine from spikes and two service aces.

Ateneo stayed unbeaten in two outings, as San Sebastian fell to its second loss in as many games. Denice Lim paced the Lady Stags with nine points.
