Cone’s move to Ginebra answer to fans’ clamor, says Ang
“Yes. Tim will coach Ginebra.”
Those five words finally put all the rumors to rest as it was no less than San Miguel Corporation President Ramon S. Ang who announced the transfer of two-time Grand Slam-winning coach Tim Cone from Star to Ginebra.
Article continues after this advertisementIn a major coaching shakeup that has sent shockwaves throughout the league, Ang said that the decision to send the American tactician to the league’s most popular ballclub was the management’s way of giving in to the fans’ demands.

“The Ginebra fans were asking for it. I think we just gave in to the request of the fans that he be the one to coach (Ginebra),” said Ang on Tuesday during the San Miguel Beermen’s victory party.
Cone will be the Gin Kings’ fifth coach since the departure of now-Talk ‘N Text coach Jong Uichico in 2012.

Ang, however, tamed expectations and said that the best they can do right now is to just hope for the best on Cone’s plans for the squad.
“We still don’t know what Tim Cone might do to the team, but we’ll just hope that he jells the team and give us good results,” he said. CFC
