NCAA defending champions Arellano University hunted down University of Batangas, 25-4, 25-23, 25-16, in the group stages of the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference on Saturday at San Juan Arena.

Menchie Tubiera shot through the double block of the Lady Brahmans to end the match and give the Lafy Chieftains a 3-1 record in Group A of the tournament.

Despite the win, Lady Chieftains head coach Roberto Javier wasn’t satisfied with how his team performed, citing overconfidence as a major flaw in the game.

“It wasn’t pretty, they relaxed during the game,” Javier said. “As a coach you know how your team plays. The game wasn’t pretty because they became overconfident as they knew they could easily defeat the opponent.”

Arellano’s offense was continuous throughout the match with relentless attacks leading to 44 spikes compared to UB’s 21.

Team Captain Cristine Rosario led the Lady Chieftains with 12 points while Tubiera had 10.

Krissa Madalogdog led the 0-4 Lady Brahmans with nine points.
