V-League: Tunay fractures nose after collision with Lastimosa
Carmela Tunay suffered a fracture nose during in the Shakey’s V-League Collegite Conference when she collided with teammate Pamela Lastimosa in University of Santo Tomas’ match against Technological Institute of the Philippines Sunday at San Juan Arena.
The Tigresses, a set away from the win, were dwon 24-25 in the third set against Technological Institute of the Philippines when Tunay’s nose collided with the elbow of Lastimosa as the two were scrambling for the receive.
Tunay was first rushed to the locker room to treat the bleeding nose but team officials decided to rush the opposite spiker to UST Hospital for better treatment.

After some tests, Tunay took to Twitter to announce that she had a fractured nose.
Tigresses head coach Kung Fu Reyes hopes Tunay would be OK, but said that other players need to step up in the absence of the opposite spiker.
Article continues after this advertisement“I hope she’s ok,” Reyes said. “Other players have to step up especially Tunay is one of the core of the team.”
Reyes added Chloe Cortez could fill-in Tunay’s role but the veteran’s presence and trademark intensity cannot be replaced.
“Mela, you all know, has that intensity, that’s her style,” Reyes said. “Chloe has her own, she’s different.”
As he was about to leave the venue, Tunay said she can manage the pain but was obviously dizzy.
“I’m dizzy but I can still walk,” a teary-eyed Tunay faintly said amidst the pain after the collision. CFC
