Guevarra outshines Maberry for Fiba 3×3 Dunk Contest title

Manila West’s Rey Guevarra came away with the Smart Slam Dunk Contest title after slipping past Porter Maberry by a point in the 2015 FIBA 3×3 World Tour Manila Masters at Robinsons Ermita on Sunday.

The Meralco Bolts forward’s array of slam dunks over a collection of Philippine All-Stars members earned him 80 points through three rounds.

Maberry, a 5-foot-5 pro-dunker, put up a good fight highlighted by by a dunk over two guys, one of which seated on top of the other, which earned a perfect 30. However, he only finished with 79 points to yield the title to Guevarra.

Kobe’s Nyika Williams was also part of the competition, but he was eliminated after the first round.

Judges for the contest were Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tab Baldwin, PBA legend Jimmy Alapag, and FIBA 3×3 Communications Manager Julian Debove.

Guevarra came away with $2,000 cash prize, a consolation to Manila West’s semifinals exit in the tournament. CFC
