MANILA, Philippines—Richela Solatorio topscored with 15 points as University of Asia and the Pacific stunned University of the Philippines, 40-37, at the start of the 24th Women’s Basketball League at the Fr. Cortina Center in Xavier School over the weekend.
All but two players fielded by UA&P backed Solatorio with six points or more in the Collegiate-A division of the tournament organized by the Best Center and backed by Milo.
Philippine Women’s University joined UA&P in the early lead with its 47-46 squeaker of a win over National University.
In Collegiate-B contests, UP-Los Baños walked over De La Salle Lipa, while University of Santo Tomas tripped Don Bosco Technical College, 62-49.
Results in the 17-Under Developmental-A division had St. Bridget School blasting Saint Pedro Poveda, 45-41; Casimiro Ynares Memorial HS besting Child Jesus of Prague School, 34-23; and New Era HS upending Colegio San Agustin, 42-31.
In the B division, Angelicum outclassed Assumption, 63-30, and St. Paul College-Pasig demolished San Beda-Alabang, 41-3.
Action in the 13-Under category saw De La Salle Zobel whip Raises Montessori Academe, 38-8, while Saint Pedro Poveda College beat Miriam by default.
