Reigning MVP Scottie Thompson got the better in a matchup of top NCAA point guards as University of Perpetual Help beat Arellano University, 76-66, Thursday at San Juan Arena.

NCAA’s defending MVP was in a matchup against Jio Jalalon, two of the premier point guards in the league.

Thompson sparked the Altas’ 7-0 sprint in the fourth to put Perpetual up, 63-56.

Bright Akhuetie then put his foot down on the hapless Chiefs scoring 16 points in the final period, while Arellano managed only 14.

Altas head coach Aric del Rosario had one thing in mind, stop Jalalon.

“We had to stop Jalalon,” del Rosario. “I told [AJ] Coronel ‘you only have one job, that is to make Jalalon work.'”

Jalalon shot a paltry 38 percent from the field en route to 14 points to go along three assists and four rebounds.

Thompson had a near triple-double for the Altas with 11 points, 16 rebounds, and six assists while Akhuetie had 31 points for the 5-2 Altas.
