San Sebastian snapped its five-game losing streak while extending Lyceum’s own skid to five with a 77-70 triumph in the NCAA Senior’s basketball tournament Friday at San Juan Arena.

With the win, the Golden Stags momentarily claimed eighth spot in the standings with a 2-6 record while the Pirates stayed at last place with a 1-7 record.

Golden Stags head coach Rodney Santos said that with all the tribulations happening to the team, only they themselves have the power to turn things around.

“It’s a good win for us, with what’s happening to the team right now only we are capable of turning things around,” Santos said.

San Sebastian had a comfortable 16-point lead, 68-52, but the Pirates went on an 18-7 raid late in the fourth to close the gap at 75-70 with 1:19 remaining in the game.

Lyceum, however, could not extend its closing run as the Stags milked the clock away.

Santos said they have to figure out how to make their weak points into assets after they finished with 31 turnovers compared to 22 assists.

Michael Calisaan exploded for a career-high 35 points to go along with 16 rebounds and two blocks.

Jon Ortuoste added 15 points and eight boards while Bradwyn Guinto had seven points and 14 boards.

Shaq Alanes led Lyceum with 17 points while Jean Nguidjol added 14. AU
