‘Sakit sa #PUSO2019’: Filipinos heartbroken over failed Fiba bid

Filipino netizens on Thursday expressed sadness and disappointment over the country’s failed bid to host the 2019 Fiba Basketball World Cup, which was granted to powerhouse China.

Comparing the news to a romantic heartache, netizens took to Twitter as they turned emotional in their “hugot” posts.

“Minsan talaga, kahit buong puso mo ‘yung ibigay mo, matatalo at matatalo ka,” said Twitter user @DianePastorfide.

“Hindi daw sapat ’yung puro PUSO lang,” @janbballesteros tweeted.

“PH to CHN be like, kunin mo na ang lahat sa akin, huwag lang ang aking mahal,” said @binuromars.

Some Twitter users linked the sport event to the ongoing tensions between the two countries over maritime disputes, while others pointed out the Philippines’ poor infrastructure and facilities.

“Pati ba naman ‘to inagaw nila? Karibal talaga natin ang China,” said Venice Jane Lejos.

“K sa inyo na ang FIBA, sa amin pa rin ang West Philippine Sea!” @beverly_heels tweeted.

“Reliable source said that while Philippines played vids of China’s human eating-escalator, latter showed MRT video in close-door #PUSO2019,” @edsMNL said.

Despite the outcome, some Twitter users said Filipinos should not be bitter, move on, and focus on improving its infrastructure, sports program and facilities.

“Parang love lang ’yan! Let’s just take this heartbreak as a motivation to improve what’s lacking like infrastructure,” said @TheyCallMeREIN. Yuji Gonzales
