Gilligan’s sneaks past Foton, nails PSL beach volleyball gold
Gilligan’s sizzled its way to the golden laurels of the Philippine Superliga Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup as it quashed the Foton Tornadoes, 19-21, 21-14, 15-11, in the finals on Saturday at Mall of Asia Sands by the Bay.
Danika Gendrauli found the perfect spot near the net of the Tornadoes after Jane Diaz’s set to seal the gold medal for the Sisig Queens.
Article continues after this advertisementGendrauli said what pulled them through was her communication with partner Diaz as they came back from a first set loss.
“We just communicated well out there on the court,” Gendrauli said. “We saw they were tired, and we just continued attack them.”
Gilligan’s never established a big lead in the third set, but the Sisig Queens quelled any Tornado attack with a well-timed offense.
Article continues after this advertisementWith the 14-10 match point firmly on their grasp, the Sisig Queens gave away a free point to the Tornadoes when Gendrauli’s serve went long for the 14-11 scoreboard.
