‘Tougher’ Lady Brahmans end first V-League stint with win
University of Batangas ended its first stint in the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference on a positive note, edging fellow first-timer Polytechnic University of the Philippines, 19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 28-26, in the group stages Sunday at San Juan Arena.
It took a couple of lucky breaks for the Lady Brahmans to seal their 1-4 record when the Lady Radicals committed two straight errors in the final set.
Article continues after this advertisementLady Brahmans head coach Ahmed Aylion said the experience in the Shakey’s V-League would be their new asset once they embark on their campaign in their mother league, the NCAA South.
“This is a huge factor for us,” Aylion said. “I can see the players getting tougher during the tournament.”
Lourdes Clemente put PUP up 26-25 in the fourth set when she drove an attack from the middle but her error gave UB the 27-26 match point.
Article continues after this advertisementAylion said playing in the V-League was a different experience when they were playing in NCAA South where they were the defending champions.
“When we got here, we got culture shocked because there are cameras, an air conditioning system, and fans,” Aylion said. “It feels good when I see the players get noticed.”
Krissa Madalogdog and Cyren Montecer led UB with 18 and 16 pointsl respectively.
Syra Romo and Clemente had stellar performances for the 0-5 PUP, finishing with 26 and 23 points, respectively.
Unfortunately for the Lady Radicals, it was their 40 errors that spelled their doom. CFC
