Orchard and Alabang took turns in ousting last year’s co-champions over the weekend to forge a titular showdown in the Federation Golf League.
Orchard moved on the cusp of its first-ever league championship when it routed Wack Wack, 8.5-3.5, sweeping their home-and-away semifinal series in a performance worthy of its top seeding.
Alabang, meanwhile, ground out a 7-5 victory over Valley by pulling off a pair of 3.5-2.5 wins at home and then in the away match.
Alabang will be shooting for just its second title since its 2003 breakthrough against a powerhouse Orchard crew in the home-and-away finale of the league organized by the Federation of Golf Clubs Philippines, Inc.
Wack Wack and Valley were declared co-champions last year when they failed to complete their title match due to darkness. They had a chance to win it solo this year but fell short against teams bent on ending their own championship heartaches.
Alabang is in the finals for the third time in three years. The Muntinlupa club finally avenged a loss they absorbed against Valley when they clashed for the crown in 2013.
In the only time it reached the finals, Orchard lost to Manila Southwoods eight years ago.
But after their rout of Wack Wack—a 3.5-2.5 decision at Wack Wack and an emphatic 5-1 blowout at home—the Cavite club built around mainstays of the 2013 PAL Interclub winning team appears to be ready for a possible coronation day.
