Eagles still unscathed, down Lady Maroons

ALYSSA Valdez delivered the goods as expected but Jhoana Maraguinot also played big as Ateneo turned back a resolute University of the Philippines side, 25-18, 26-24, 20-25, 25-15, in the quarterfinal round of the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Collegiate Conference yesterday at Filoil Flying V Arena.

Valdez fired the crucial hits that got Ateneo out of tight situations to finish with 29 points and Maraguinot also shone with 24 in the four-set win that kept the Lady Eagles unbeaten with a 4-0 slate.

“It was really a hard battle,” said Valdez. “UP gave us a good fight, from the spikers up to the libero. Our coach reminded us to be consistent.”

While the Lady Eagles needed to overcome some tough stretches, National University showed its might early to dismantle De La Salle-Dasmariñas, 25-17, 25-19, 25-17, and keep second spot with a 3-1 card.
