Far Eastern University ran over College of St. Benilde in lopsided fashion, 25-21, 25-6, 25-17, to start its quarterfinals campaign in the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference Sunday at San Juan Arena.
Geneveve Casugod rose up for back-to-back blocks to ensure the Lady Tamaraws’ 3-1 record.
In the quarterfinals, the teams will carry new win-loss records after wins over eliminated squads in the group stages have been removed.
Lady Tamaraws head coach Shaq Delos Santos said his team used the bitter loss against National University to motivate themselves in the start of the playoffs.
“Actually we were challenged when we lost to NU in our last game of the group stages,” said Delos Santos, whose team lost in three sets to the Lady Bulldogs and the chance to sweep Group A. “It was all constructive on our part.”
“I told them to forget about NU and just focus on the quarterfinals.”
FEU embarrassed St. Benilde in the second set only allowing two points from the Lady Blazers and giving away four free points courtesy of errors.
“I think we just carried our momentum from the first set,” Delos Santos said.
Bernadeth Pons led FEU with 14 points while guest players Honey Tubino and Jovelyn Gonzaga combined for 17.
Jannine Navarro and Ranya Musa had five points apiece for the 0-4 Lady Blazers. CFC
