JRU’s much-improved Teodoro is NCAA Player of the Week

Tey Teodoro has embraced his new role as Jose Rizal U’s go-to guy at crunchtime. Along the way, he led the Heavy Bombers to a string of impressive wins, none more spectacular than their incredible comeback from a late double-digit deficit to stun Mapua, 90-87, last Tuesday.

With Teodoro taking charge, the Bombers rallied from 16 points down in the last two minutes to complete one of the more remarkable victories in the NCAA tournament.

Teodoro exploded for a career-high 32 points with 18 coming in the fourth period. His biggest basket came with 3.2  seconds remaining when he spun around Allwell Oraeme for a layup that gave JRU its first taste of the lead which the Bombers eventually preserved.

The last play spoke volumes of the second year guard’s maturity as he opted to go for the high percentage shot despite getting a wide open look from beyond the arc moments earlier.

“He’s a smart player and I told him he’s the best player on the team,” JRU coach Vergel Meneses said of Teodoro who was named  Accel Quantum/3XVI-NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week. Cedelf P. Tupas
