St. Benilde bucks Mojica’s 35, outlasts EAC in Spikers’ Turf playoffs
Power-for-power. Howard Mojica may have won the battle, but Johnvic de Guzman’s squad won the war.
In the battle centered around the two power hitters on Monday at the Spikers’ Turf Collegiate Conference quarterfinals, it was College of St. Benilde which prevailed in the end.
De Guzman steered the Blazers to a five-set thriller against Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-22, 21-25, 16-25, 25-22, 15-13, bucking a blazing 35-point output from the Generals’ star.
Article continues after this advertisementOn top of the win, De Guzman had 25 points, 21 coming from spikes, three from blocks, and one service ace to improve St. Benilde’s standing to 1-3 in the round-robin playoffs.
Racmade Etrone added 14 points, all from kills, while Isaah Arda chipped 12 in the win.
Mojica, who showed why he is one of the most prolific male volleyball players in the country today, 29 from attacks, four from blocks, and two service aces but the NCAA Season 90 men’s volleyball MVP’s efforts were for naught.
