La Salle’s Ben Mbala to sit out another UAAP season

Still no Ben Mbala for La Salle this UAAP season.

The 6-foot-5 Cameroonian has been barred from playing in season 78 by the UAAP Board after the former Southwestern University Cobra was found guilty of playing on a league outside of the UAAP.

In a report on Spin.ph, the Board deemed Mbala ineligible for violating the residency rules after participating in the Pacman Cup in General Santos City last January.

The development was confirmed by UAAP secretary general Ronnie Dizer.

Mbala, a transferee from Southwestern University, is serving his second year of residency to be able to play for the Green Archers.

Players who are serving their residency are prohibited from participating in any outside league, forcing Mbala, who already had a two-year wait, to sit out another season.

It’s a big blow for the already depleted La Salle frontcourt, which lost Norbert Torres due to graduation and Arnold Van Opstal, who decided to skip his final playing year. CFC
