MANILA, Philippines—Repeating a feat it accomplished eight years ago, University of Santo Tomas completed a double championship in the UAAP men’s and women’s judo tournament over the weekend at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Tigers compiled 50 points built on the gold-winning performances of Most Valuable Player Brian Llamas (-60 kg), Jon Rodriguez (-66 kg), Nash Tagle (-73 kg) and Stephen Que (-100 kg).
Rookie of the Year Lucky Flores (-66 kg) and Alexis Albor (-90 kg) also picked up silver medals for the Tigers.
The Tigresses captured their second straight title with 45 points behind gold medalists Micah Billiones (-52 kg), Annie Ramirez (-57 kg), Jewel De Castro (-63 kg) and MVP Shallane Bello (-48 kg).
Also adding to the haul were Princess Lucman with a silver (+78 kg) and Jyniene Honorio with a bronze (-70 kg).
“Our players showed improved endurance, skills and technique that’s why we won the championship after four years as runner-up,” said UST coach Steven Esteban.
La Salle placed second with 45 points while Ateneo dropped to third (21) after a three-year reign.
University of the Philippines wound up second behind the Tigresses (38) while University of the East was third (21).
Ateneo, led by MVP Ramon Santiago, bagged the juniors crown for the sixth straight season.
