Palawan Pawnshop tennis draws record field

Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala resumes its regional age group tennis tournament Friday with rising junior players from the provinces facing Metro Manila bets at Celebrity Sports Club in Quezon City.

Organizers are expecting over 500 participants in the singles draw alone of the six-day ranking tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association.

“The players from the provinces are eager to pit their skills and talents against the leading Manila-based netters,” said Palawan Pawnshop COO Bobby Castro.

Lanao’s Mart Cabahug, who ruled the 18-Under section in the recent Olivarez Cup, and runner-up Allen Gerry Manlangit from Iligan head the roster of provincial bets.  They will be joined by Cagayan de Oro’s Dave Mosqueda, Christian Fel Lopez of Davao, Vincent Alanis of Naga, Bicol, Jonas Silva of Olongapo and AJ Alejandre of Cotabato.

Miles Vitaliano is also in the fold, priming up for the WTA Future Stars in Singapore in October. She heads the cast in the girls’ 14-U division along with top seed Mikaela Vicencio.
