MANILA, Philippines—Host Rizal Technological University and Centro Escolar University topped the opener of their respective finals series and will go for the championship on Saturday in the 42nd WNCAA tournament at the St. Scholastica gym.
RTU dominated San Beda College Alabang, 25-21, 25-16, 25-20, but CEU thumped the RTU five, 66-49, in the senior division’s Game 1 over the weekend.
San Beda struck back in junior volleyball with a hard-earned 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25, 17-15 Game 1 triumph over Miriam College.
Earlier, Angelicum College claimed third place over deposed two-time defending champion St. Scholastica’s College, 25-23, 27-25, 25-13.
De La Salle Zobel, meanwhile, is all set to claim two more championships after recently annexing its fourth straight junior futsal title. The Alabang-based school’s junior squad beat St. Jude Catholic School, 73-55, while its midget volleyball team, the reigning champion, overwhelmed St. Scholastica, 25-19, 25-18.
Miriam, junior basketball champion for the past three years, settled for third place after beating La Salle-Antipolo, 65-51.
Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) of all title fights will be played this weekend at the same venue. The knockout duel between DLSZ and Miriam for the midgets cage crown will also be played on Saturday.
