A day after influencing the outcome of the winner-take-all match of Seth Rollins and John Cena on WWE SummerSlam, Jon Stewart explained his actions on Raw on Tuesday (Monday Manila time) at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
“In my heart, I could not let John Cena tie the great Ric Flair for 16 championships because in my mind, the champ is Flair. Not on my watch was I going to let that happen,” the former host of The Today Show said.
Flair emerged and told Stewart, “I really appreciate what you were thinking last night, but to be honest with you, I was pulling for John Cena.”
“Sooner or later, the record will be broken and I prefer it be with someone I respect,” the 16-time world champion said.
Cena, then, confronted Stewart and delivered an Attitude Adjustment to end the segment.
A day prior, Stewart, who was serving as the host of SummerSlam, hit Cena with a steel chair, costing him the match and the WWE United States title. Rollins emerged as the victor and became the first man to hold the U.S. and WWE championships at the same time.
