PSL Grand Prix serves up import-laced tourney Oct. 10

CRACK imports will reinforce teams seeing action in the coming Philippine Superliga Grand Prix.

League president Ramon “Tats” Suzara yesterday said the imports will  raise the quality of matches and attract more volleyball fans.

The PSL Grand Prix will kick off Oct. 10 at Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.

Brazilian beauty Erica Adachi will again suit up for defending champion Petron while American Lindsay Stalzer, also a league returnee, may play again for Cignal.

Among the new faces is former Brazilian national player Rupia Inck, a 6-foot power hitter who also competed for Fresno University in the US NCAA.

Suzara has yet to name the other reinforcements for the other six teams but said they will come from Puerto Rico, Italy and Cuba.

Petron, which has won two conferences in a row, will test the mettle of Cignal, Foton, Meralco-DLSU, Philips Gold and RC Cola-Air Force.

Philippine Army, a three-conference champ, has yet to formalize its participation as it decides which corporate sponsor to carry in the tournament.

“This is getting more intense, more competitive,” said Suzara. “All major companies want to be represented and they will do whatever they can to build the strongest team possible.

“Two, or possibly three, more equally strong teams will spice up the tourney.”
