NU outlasts UST, gains Shakey’s GVL finals

NATIONAL University outlasted University of Santo Tomas, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21, 28-26, to rule the Shakey’s Girls’ Volleyball League Season 13 NCR leg at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on Thursday.

Faith Nisperos provided the firepower, Nicole Magsarile supplied the defensive spunk and Joyme Cagande set up the solid offense as the Lady Bullpups overcame UST’s gutsy stand.

NU thus advanced to the national finals along with the other regional winners of the annual event sponsored by Shakey’s and organized by Metro Sports.

Kings’ Montessori School bested Adamson to snare third place in the event also backed by Asics, Mikasa, Iloilo Doctors’ College and MyPhone.

Nisperos bagged the Most Valuable Player plum and was likewise named first best outside attacker.

Magsarile took the first best middle blocker award while Cagande was named best setter.

Other awardees were KMS’ Lorienlyn Bernardo (second best middle blocker) and Carla Sandoval (second best outside attacker) and UST’s Ejiya Laure (best opposite attacker) and Bernadette Pepito (best libero).
