Boxing’s “Fight of the Century” failed miserably to live up to its billing.
And after the hoopla that surrounded the fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao had subsided, “Money” told Showtime that he wasn’t to be blamed as he pointed the finger at “Pacman.”
“The fans have to be mad at Pacquiao,” Mayweather told Jim Gray. “They can’t be mad at me, I’ve done my job.”
“I never said I was a checkers player. I’ a chess player. I play chess. Every move is calculated,” Mayweather, who earned over $200 million just for that bout alone.
Pacquiao is known for his aggressive style of fighting but Mayweather, the tactician that he is, dragged the Filipino ring icon to his pace and never really allowing the eight-division champion get into any kind of momentum throughout the 12-round yawner.
Mayweather went on to win his 48th consecutive fight by scoring unanimous decision in what analysts called a “dud” of a fight.
“Every move is calculated but the fans should’ve thought about that when I was running through everybody at one particular time.”
