University of the Philippines recovered from a slow start to beat College of St. Benilde, 18-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-19, in the quarterfinals of the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate ConferenceSunday at San Juan Arena.

The Lady Maroons and Lady Blazers are already out of contention but head coach Gerry Yee said the game still mattered to UP as the team aims to be better.

“We are trying to build character here, even if we’re out of contention, I hope we can learn something here,” Yee said. 

Rookie Justin Dorog led UP with 20 points while fellow rookie Maria Molde added Diana Carlos also scored in double-digits with 12 while Marian Buitre had 11. 

UP improved to 1-5 while CSB, which was paced by Jannine Navarro’s 16 points, stayed winless at 0-6
