University of the Philippines finished off its campaign in the Spikers’ Turf with a five-set thriller over National College of Business and Arts, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-11, in the quarterfinals Wednesday at San Juan Arena.
The Fighting Maroons were just finishing up their assignments while the Wildcats are avoiding a playoff against De La Salle for the last semifinal slot.
Had NCBA won, it would’ve completed the semifinals cast that included Ateneo, National University and Emilio Aguinaldo College.
Alfred Valbuena carried UP with 26 points in its final match while John Millete and Wendel Miguel had 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Wildcats guest player Edwin Tolentino led NCBA with 24 points.
NCBA had the better attacking game with 52 spikes compared to UP’s 47 but gave away 42 errors.
