Mapua went on a systematic tear of San Sebastian, 87-78, for back-to-back victories in the NCAA Seniors’ Basketball tournament Thursday at San Juan Arena.

Josan Nimes returned after a three-game absence due to a groin injury and poured in 18 points and dished out six assists.

Up 83-69 midway through the fourth, the Cardinals saw the Stags mount a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 83-78 with 1:03 remaining.

Allwell Oraeme then proved everything’s well for Mapua with a layup in transition which Nimes then followed with another one to give the Cardinals the final score with 45 seconds remaining.

Mapua improved to a 6-5 record for the sixth seed while San Sebastian fell to 3-9 at eighth.

Oraeme put up an 11-point, 18-rebound double-double for Mapua while Mark Braña had his own double-double of 10 points and 10 boards.

John Nieles also had 10 points to go along seven assists while Darell Menina added 10 points and three steals for the Cardinals.

Jamil Ortuoste led the Stags with 23 points while Ryan Costelo added 15.
