Azkals blank Maldives in friendly ahead of Uzbekistan clash
Sluggish in their first match in two months, the Philippine Azkals slipped past Maldives, 2-0, in their international friendly match Thursday at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
An own goal from Maldives forward Mohammed Samdhooh at the 49th minute broke the ice as he inadvertently headed the ball, which was originally intended for Iain Ramsay, to his squad’s net.
Jerry Lucena then struck with another header at the 55th minute to double the lead.
The Philippines will play Uzbekistan on Tuesday at Philippine Sports Stadium to continue its journey in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
