Far Eastern University came alive in the end game to hold off University of Santo Tomas 25-16, 19-25, 27-29, 25-15, 15-10, Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference at San Juan Arena.

With a 5-2 record, the Lady Tamaraws joined the Lady Eagles of Ateneo and the Lady Bulldogs of National University in the semifinal round.

FEU held on to a 14-7 match point but allowed UST to score three straight points, 14-10, until Royce Tubino ended the match with an off-the block kill.

Lady Tamaraws head coach Shaq Delos Santos admitted the second and third sets weren’t the best sets they could’ve done but was thankful they recovered.

“Those sets, I admit, were pretty bad thankfully we recovered,” Delos Santos said. “I thank God for giving us this win.”

Guest players Tubino and Jovelyn Gonzaga led the Lady Tamaraws with 16 and 14 points apiece while Mary Palma and Toni Basas each added nine.

With the loss, UST is put in a tricky situation as the Tigresses wait for the outcome of Arellano University’s match against College of St. Benilde.

A win by the Lady Chiefs would force a playoff with the 4-3 Tigresses but a win by the Lady Blazers would give UST a bye for the semifinals.

EJ Laure led UST with 15 points while three other Tigresses finished in double-digits with Jessey De Leon adding 13, Pam Lastimosa with 12 and Carmela Tunay with 10.
