University of the Philippines ended its campaign in the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference on a positive note with a sweep over La Salle-Dasmariñas, 25-19, 25-10, 25-18, in the quarterfinals Sunday at the Arena in San Juan.
Rookie Maria Molde was on point for the Lady Fighting Maroons finishing with 19 points, 14 coming off spikes. UP finished the tournament with a 2-5 record.
UP head coach Jerry Yee said the offseason tournament served as a great exposure for his rookies as the youngsters used the time to learn and somehow familiarize themselves with the kind of competition they’re going to face in the collegiate game.
“This is a prime exposure for the kids,” Yee said. “They can now feel what it’s like playing in the collegiate ranks.”
Justine Dorog, another rookie for UP, added 14 points off seven spikes and seven service aces.
Cherry Nunag led the Lady Patriots, who wrapped up their campaign with a 1-6 card, with eight points.
