FEU plays true to form with 24-point blowout of Ateneo
Far Eastern University isn’t tagged as the top UAAP Season 78 contender for nothing.
The Tamaraws inserted fear into the rest of the league following a statement win over the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 88-64, Sunday night at Mall of Asia Arena.
Article continues after this advertisement“Our objective on defense was to limit the touches of Kiefer Ravena. He scored 25, he took 18 shots and eight free throws so I don’t think we were successful defensively,” Racela told reporters.. “So these guys still need to put in the work.”
“We don’t play for others. What’s important for us is to just focus on the task at hand whichever team we play,” said Racela as he downplayed his team’s wire-to-wire win.
Roger Pogoy scored 19 points to lead four FEU players in double-digits while Mike Tolomia added 17. Mac Belo and Raymar Jose had 16 points apiece.
Article continues after this advertisementKiefer Ravena posted a game-high 25 points but was held scoreless in the fourth quarter after scoring 14 in the third period where he tried to bring the Blue Eagles back into the game.
Ravena tried, but FEU just wouldn’t let him.
The Blue Eagles never threatened while the Tamaraws poured it on from start to finish with contributions coming from just every player Racela decides to field in to.
Jose added 10 rebounds to his name, Russel Escoto recorded six points, eight rebounds and three blocks while Achie Iñigo and Monbert Arong also had their moments as they combined for 10 points and seven rebounds.
FEU shot 51% from the field and limited Ateneo to only 31%.
