The last time College of St. Benilde faced Arellano University, the Lady Blazers lost in the NCAA Finals.
Meeting the Lady Chiefs for the first time since that painful defeat, the Lady Blazers made sure there won’t be a similar result.
“Since we’re facing the Lady Chiefs, why not change things up a bit, let us put in their minds that they are facing a different team, a team different from those they’ve defeated,” CSB head coach Michael Cariño said.
Down two sets to none and facing a sweep, the Lady Blazers showed great resolve as they came back to chalk up a gutsy win, 23-25, 25-27, 25-23, 25-23, 15-10, Sunday in the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference.
CSB may have only finished with one win but it was a victory that means more than just what its lowly record shows.
“It was a statement for sure, especially in the NCAA, where it has happened for two years,” Cariño said. “When University of Perpetual Help won the title, we beat them in the eliminations, when Arellano won we did the same.”
“We want them to think that CSB is a different team.”
