Hidilyn Diaz hauls 3 golds in Asian Weightlifting Championships

Sliding down in weight proved beneficial for lifter Hidilyn Diaz.

The two-time Olympian ruled her new weight class Monday in the 26th Women’s Asian Seniors Weightlifting Championships in Phuket, Thailand.       

From 56kgs, Diaz shed mass and moved to 53kg where the 24-year-old pocketed three gold medals after lifting 96kg in the snatch, 118kg in the clean and jerk for a 214kg total.       

The Zamboanga City native defeated South Korea’s Kim Su Ryon, who settled for second place with scores of 95kg, 113kg and 208kg total.

The golden feat of Diaz, who dominated the six-woman field, jacked up the collection of the Philippines in the Asian championship with five golds and one silver.  

After Phuket, next stop for Diaz and Colonia is the Invitational 2015 IWF Grand Prix in Fuzhou, China on Sept. 21-23.
