Donaire defends crowns vs Narvaez in New York

Filipino three-division world champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. stakes his WBC and WBO bantamweight titles against Omar Narvaez of Argentina on Oct.ober 23 (Manila time) at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

Donaire, who totes a 26-1-0 record with 18 knockouts, will defend the crowns he won from Fernando Montiel whom he nailed to the canvas in the second round on February 23.

The championship bout will be telecast live by ABS-CBN Sports from 10:15 a.m. on Channel 2.

That victory over Montiel ended the Mexican champ’s 25-winning streak and recalled Donaire’s stunning knockout of then world flyweight champion Vic Darchin-yan in 2007.

Ten of Donaire’s last 11 victories have come by way of knockout.

Narvaez (35-0-2, 19 KOs) holds the WBO junior championship belt after holding the WBO flyweight title, which he relinquished early last year, for over seven years.
