FEU blasts La Salle for 2nd UAAP win
Far Eastern University unleashed a scathing third quarter storm to rout La Salle, 93-75, Sunday in the UAAP Season 78 men’s basketball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena.
The Tamaraws held the Green Archers scoreless in the final five minutes of the third, turning a close 57-54 affair to a 77-54 lead at the end of the period.
Article continues after this advertisementMike Tolomia captained the charge for FEU with 20 points on an 8-of-16 shooting from the field to go with five assists to claim its second victory of the season.
Mac Belo finished with 17 markers, four boards, four dimes and four blocks. He also gave FEU its biggest lead of the game at 24 with two charities to put his squad ahead, 81-57.
Prince Orizu just missed out on a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds in the win.
Article continues after this advertisement“We took a gamble in using some of our players and it paid off,” said FEU coach Nash Racela, noting the contributions given by guys like Joe Trinidad, Francis Tamsi, and Barkley Eboña. “Those guys delivered for us because early in the game, our key guys were in foul trouble. Good thing was they were ready.”
Jeron Teng’s 29 points and 10 rebounds were wasted in the defeat, as the Green Archers fell to their second straight loss.
Joshua Caracut added 13 markers, as Julian Sargent finished with a double-double of 11 points and 11 boards.
