NU spikers emerge as early leaders in UAAP high school volley

Defending girls champion National University took solo lead in the standings after beating University of Santo Tomas, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23, in a rematch of last year’s Finals over the weekend in the UAAP Season 78 high school volleyball tournament at Adamson Gym in Manila.

NU rose from an opening set loss behind reigning MVP Faith Nisperos to ruin UST’s revenge plot Sunday.

The win hiked NU’s unbeaten record to 4-0 after coasting past UP Integrated School, 25-20, 25-12, 25-12, on Saturday.

UST whipped Far Eastern University-Diliman, 25-12, 25-18, 25-18, before losing to NU for its first defeat in four games.

De La Salle-Zobel is also at 3-1 after posting a couple of victories in contrasting fashion over University of the East and UPIS.

In the boys division, NU is also at the helm with a 4-0 mark following straight-sets wins over La Salle-Zobel and UPIS while reigning 11-time champion UE and UST are tied in second place with similar 3-1 slates.
