The NCAA on Wednesday handed one-game suspensions on three players for separate infractions the past week.
The NCAA management committee (Mancom) penalized San Beda’s Michole Sorela, Jose Rizal University’s Gio Lasquety, and Mapua’s Denniel Aguirre effective immediately.
Sorela was meted a disqualifying foul after throwing a punch at Perpetual forward Kevin Oliveria in the Red Lions’ 86-88 defeat to the Altas last Thursday. He will miss San Beda’s game against San Sebastian on Thursday.
Lasquety, meanwhile, was thrown out in the first quarter of JRU’s 73-69 win over St. Benilde after punching the Blazers’ Ralph Deles.
He will not be in uniform when JRU clashes against Letran on Friday, an all-important game for the Heavy Bombers who are chasing a seat in the Final Four.
Aguirre also committed a flagrant foul on Letran’s Jomari Sollano in Mapua’s 82-77 win over Letran on Tuesday which forces him out of the Cardinals’ clash against Arellano, also on Friday.
After further review by NCAA commissioner Bai Cristobal, the foul merited as suspension as it was a hit above the shoulders.
