In a matchup between Chinese champions and Philippine champions, the Chinese showed why are the Asia’s powerhouse.
China League champions Zhejiang thrashed Philippine Super Liga champions Petron Blaze Spikers, 25-15, 25-14, 25-20, to top Group B in the preliminaries of the 2015 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship at Ha Nam Stadium in Vietnam Wednesday.
According to the tournament’s official Facebook page, Zhejiang hasn’t dropped a match so far.
Li Ying stopped the Blaze Spikers’ comeback bid in the third set with a powerful set spike.
Zhejiang head coach Wu Sheng said starting out strong proved vital for them as they had the luxury of resting and rotating players throughout the match.
“We played well in the first set and after that we changed a few players from the substitutions,” Wu said, as per AVC. “We just wanted to rest our best players to have a rest and prepare for the match of the next round.”
Li led the Chinese with 11 points while Dindin Santiago-Manabat had a match-high 14 points for the Filipino, who have only won once so far in the tournament.
