Valdez wins another V-League MVP, wants title for Ateneo
Alyssa Valdez, the undisputed queen of women’s volleyball, added a second Shakey’s V-League MVP award to her cabinet of accolades during the awarding ceremony Sunday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Valdez, though, has her eyes on a team goal which is to win the championship for Ateneo.
Article continues after this advertisement“The MVP is just a bonus for me if we win the championship. Championships carry more weight for me,” Valdez said after scoring 20 points to lead Ateneo over National University in their best-of-three finals opener.
“After 10 years, people are still talking about the championships you’ve earned.”
Aside from bagging the MVP, Valdez is also the tournament’s 1st Best Outside Spiker with University of Santo Tomas’ EJ Laure finishing as the runner-up.
Article continues after this advertisementNational University’s Fatima General was named Best Libero while Ateneo’s Gizelle Tan got her reward as Valdez’ handy sidekick as she nabbed the Best Setter award.
Far Eastern University’s Jovelyn Gonzaga was heralded as the Best Opposite Spiker while Lady Bulldogs’ Jaja Santiago was the 1st Best Middle Blocker and Lady Eagle Bea Santiago was the 2nd Best Middle Blocker.
