Far Eastern University is slowly turning into the team the rest of the UAAP feared heading into the 78th season.
The Tamaraws, winners of three straight, are now atop the helm with a 4-1 record after overtaking idle University of Santo Tomas and Ateneo following a come-from-behind victory over University of the East on Wednesday.
FEU, though, is still far from where it wants to be with its head coach Nash Racela searching for consistency as seen from its performances the past two games where the Tams had to regroup in the second half.
“We’re still looking into that,” Racela said after his team needed a big fourth quarter to thwart UE. “We’ve tried different starting fives because right now we’re looking for consistency.”
FEU entered the second half down, 50-39, and stared at a 71-59 debacle at the end of the third quarter before Mac Belo took over in the fourth period.
The Tams, overcoming a sloppy first half, also clamped down on the Red Warriors in the final frame, outpointing them, 33-10.
