Berto: People will question Mayweather’s legacy to a point

Andre “the Beast” Berto may have lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Money’s swan song but the felled American is not done throwing jabs at Mayweather.

In a report from BoxingScene.com, the Beast said people would still question Mayweather’s 49-0 legacy and if he would be considered as one of the all-time greats.

Furthermore, Berto said in an interview with Power 105 that Mayweather lacks the killer instinct when facing inferior opponents.

“I think when it comes to his legacy, people are always going to question it to a point,” Berto said.

He pointed out the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard’s penchant for dismantling opponents whoever they may be.

“Just because you see guys like Sugar Ray Robinson, you see guys like even Sugar Ray Leonard. Sugar Ray Leonard had that dog about him. He can box your ass off, but if you’re not supposed to be in the ring with him—like people may say, whoever it may be—he would take you up out of there.”

Berto criticized Mayweather as a boxer who would not give his top performance and would be contented to collect the pay in a fight against a lower fighter.

“Floyd is the type of guy that (thinks), ‘Even if you’re not supposed to be in here with me, I’m chillin’ and gettin’ this check.’ That’s the only thing. I think that’s just the only problem,” Berto said. RAM
