CHANGSHA CITY, China – Even after shooting 11 points in each of Gilas Pilipinas’ first two games in the Fiba Asia tournament here, Terrence Romeo was in no mood to talk.
“So sorry, sir, I’ll talk next time,” said Romeo as he politely turned down requests for an interview after Gilas Pilipinas’ win over Hong Kong.

The 5-foot-11 point guard has not gotten his shots to fall, averaging just 24% from the field after making 7-of-29 in games against Palestine and Hong Kong.

Romeo normed more than 18 before being forced to sit out the last three games in the Jones Cup, where he was an international revelation.

Gilas coach Tab Baldwin had publicly announced that he wanted Romeo to abandon his “gunslinger ways” so he could help the team better. That aspect of Romeo’s game is said to have been corrected during a recent five-day camp in Cebu.
Romeo also had only three assists in two games in sharing the point guard spot with Jason Castro.

Gilas would need to have its guns firing if it wants to nail that lone Olympic berth staked in this tournament. Otherwise, a malfunctioning arsenal would find it difficult to stand up to Iran, China, South Korea and even Chinese Taipei.
