Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko has postponed his title fight against Tyson Fury scheduled on Oct. 24 after sustaining an injury on his calf.
As per German newspaper Bild, Klitschko hurt his left calf while training in Austria for the fight where he was supposed to defend his WBA, WBO, and IBF belts.
Klitschko extended his apologies to the fans and also to Fury, who will have to wait a little longer for his title shot.
“Of course I’m mad, sorry. For my fans, but also for my opponent Tyson Fury,” Klitschko said.
Bild wrote Klitschko’s manager, Bernd Bonte will announce a new fight date this coming week.
Fury posted his reaction to the news on his Twitter account, saying Klitschko should not feel sorry for him and instead the undisputed heavyweight champion should feel bad for the fans who have already secured tickets and accommodations for the fight.
“Don’t feel sorry for me, I’ll be okay. I’m sorry for the fans again as they are the biggest losers here.” Fury posted. “Sorry guys.”
In 2011, Fury failed to secure a fight with the now-retired David Haye.
